Letterline // Comments from readers across the USA — USA Today

Type: Press

Appalled by ads: I find it appalling that USA TODAY continues to run outrageous, full-page ads paid for by the Church of Scientology. By continuing to run these ads, USA TODAY is aiding and abetting a very vicious and greedy cult — Scientology. Jim Beebe Warrenville, Ill. Enjoys the ads: I have been a Scientologist since 1979. I totally enjoy the ads currently running in USA TODAY. I like your editorials, and wish you continued success and prosperity. ''Nancy Rose Los ...

Letters // Scientologists unfairly attack Prozac — Tampa Tribune (Florida)

Type: Press
Source: Tampa Tribune (Florida)
The June 1 letter on Prozac by Doug Johnston is another example of the campaign of misinformation that Scientologists are spreading on Prozac and other treatments prescribed by psychiatrists. Johnston refers to research carried out by L. Ron Hubbard, the founder of Scientology. Hubbard initiated his "research" with the premises that all psychiatric treatment is damaging to all patients and that psychological problems can be dealt with only by training the mind to forget, using a form of self-hypnosis. He conveniently ...

USA TODAY 1000 Wilson Blvd. Arlington, VA 22229 5 June 1991 I was one of your charter subscribers and have followed your growth both in circulation and influence from the beginning. In fact, I liked USA TODAY so much that I directed my company to place a full page back cover ad in the national edition for our Dr. Who book series. During the past fortnight I have read with dismay, the clumsy sereies of attacks against Time magazine by the ...

Letters // A bum rap for Scientology — Boston Herald

With regard to Paul Sullivan's May 8 Celebrity item about Demi Moore (" 'Ghost' film star taking close look at Scientology"): While I can't confirm or deny Moore's interest in the church Sullivan's article missed the mark about what the church is and does. Churches of Scientology are involved in dozens of community service programs that are improving conditions around the world and which have been acknowledged by community leaders, public officials and the media. Among other things, Scientology churches are ...

Letters to the Editor // For shame! — Daily Yomiuri (Japan)
More: link
Type: Press
Source: Daily Yomiuri (Japan)
I was surprised by the emotional tone of Mark Wilkinson's review (April 14 P7) of the book by L. Ron Hubbard titled "Clear Body, Clear Mind." Mr. Wilkinson made his feelings about Mr. Hubbard very clear in his "review" but in the process of giving vent to these in a sarcastic diatribe of transparent intent, Wilkinson violated the cardinal principle of the journalistic profession, which is to maintain objectivity. To completely omit major sections of what is probably the most significant ...
