Scientology protest causes city to stop enforcing ordinance — Chicago Sun Times
Type: Press
Author(s): Mitch Dudek
Source: Chicago Sun Times
A protest last year outside the Church of Scientology of Illinois headquarters in Lake View has prompted the city to stop enforcing an ordinance that banned protests while religious services are being conducted. The issue arose late last year, when eight or nine protesters gathered outside the Church of Scientology location at 3011 N. Lincoln. In response, church members taped a sign to the front window that announced services there are held virtually all day — from 9:30 a.m. to 10 ...

Three days after more than 2,000 Scientologists crowded into the historic Ybor Square courtyard to celebrate the opening of the Church of Scientology Tampa's new home — a landmark 88,000-square-foot former cigar factory in Ybor City — Creative Loafing editor David Warner and I found ourselves in a COS conference room facing several of the Church's top-ranking public relations officials. They were decidedly not happy with a blog post I'd written that quoted a handful of protesters from the group Anonymous ...

The Church of Scientology is setting up base in Mono, at the former Hockley Highlands Inn & Conference Centre, with plans to establish a national retreat for members of the faith. While Scientologists are excited about the idea — this will be the first retreat of its kind in Canada and one of only a handful around the world — at least one former member is raising a red flag. Adam Holland, a 22-year-old Toronto man who was raised in the ...

On August 19, 2009, Tommy Davis, the chief spokesperson for the Church of Scientology International, received a letter from the film director and screenwriter Paul Haggis. “For ten months now I have been writing to ask you to make a public statement denouncing the actions of the Church of Scientology of San Diego,” Haggis wrote. Before the 2008 elections, a staff member at Scientology’s San Diego church had signed its name to an online petition supporting Proposition 8, which asserted that ...

Type: Press
Author(s): Duane W. Gang
Source: Press-Enterprise (Riverside, California)

Under the new proposal, protesters can get as close as three feet from the property. "I think it is a worthwhile compromise," Supervisor Jeff Stone said. Supervisors adopted the measure, known as Ordinance 884, in March 2009. Stone ...
